Back in March, Kara first learned of the existence of Project Cadmus on Supergirl late in season one. The season ended without her knowing too much about it, though, aside from that small detail that her foster father, Jeremiah Danvers, was a live and being kept there for some reason. Cadmus was revealed as a place that experiments on and develops countermeasures against extraterrestrial threats.

Now, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has given us the next pieces of the puzzle, and revealed that Project Cadmus (and, assuming, their leadership) is the "big bad" of at least the first half of the season, with another coming forth later in the year. "It's dedicated to eradicating alien life on Earth. They're fanatics. They're true believers," Kreisberg told EW. "It's a collection of scientists, of very bright, patriotic people who truly believe what they're saying. That makes them even more dangerous."

That sort of storyline is certainly ripe for a political slant and potential controversy in the current landscape, but will also serve to show the darker side of government preparedness, potentially giving us a full organizational battle of DEO vs. Cadmus once the new higher-ups at the DEO find out just what's going on there. As far as what Cadmus has been doing with Jeremiah Danvers, well, let's just hope Kara doesn't have to fight any more family members this season.

For context, in the comics and previous adaptations, Project Cadmus has taken an interest in Kryptonians before, most notably as the creators of Superboy, a partial-clone of Superman. Most of the time they haven't been portrayed as outright villains, and have even employed aliens in their desire to find new ways to use alien technology (and DNA) against any potential threats.

Supergirl season two kicks off the first week of October at 8pm on Monday on The CW.
