Superhero movies may eventually go the way of the Western as legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg predicted, but based on the box office numbers this year, the genre isn't going to go away anytime soon and is as healthy as ever. So far, five comic book movies -- Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and X-Men: Apocalypse -- make up the top ten at the 2016 worldwide box office and all of them, except Apocalypse ($543M), have earned over $700M each.

Of course, some comic book fans can't just be happy with how well the genre is doing; they instead expend wasted energy over arguing whether Marvel or DC films are better.

James Gunn, the talented director behind Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy films, is always a voice of reason, and in a recent interview, while promoting The Belko Experiment, Gunn explained why he doesn't even give the endless and fruitless Marvel/DC debate any of his valuable time or mental space.

"I just don't find any room in my headspace for thinking my movies are superior or inferior to someone else's," he told Variety. "I really just think about how can I make, for instance right now, how can I make Guardians Vol. 2 the greatest spectacle film of all time? That's all I care about so that's what I concentrate on. I don't really think about Marvel versus DC. And also any time a Marvel movie comes out that isn't as good as I wished it was or anytime a DC movie comes out that isn't as I wished it was, I'm disappointed because I love these characters. I grew up reading Marvel and DC comics. I want them all to be good."

Showing that he means what he says, Gunn and Wonder Woman director, Patty Jenkins, had a fun exchange on Twitter earlier today, commenting on an image supporting Marvel and DC fans co-existing, though they would prefer to call it "coW-existing."

Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. The Belko Experiment will debut in theaters on March 17th, 2017.
