April has only just began, but anime fans have already been given a slew of gifts. Not only did shows like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia debut their next seasons, but other titles like Boruto: Naruto Next Generations are on their way. The three popular series are set to usher in a jam-packed anime schedule for fans all over the world, and it doesn't look like those followers will get a break anytime soon. You can thank Code Geass for that.

Later this year, Code Geass will make an surprise return on behalf of Sunrise. The studio will roll out a film trilogy based on the two-season anime which recaps it into theatrical chunks. The series will debut before a third season of Code Geass premieres, ending a long hiatus since the anime effectively ended back in 2008. To hype the return of the franchise, Sunrise has just released its first promotional video for Code Geass' first film - and it has fans feeling a certain kind of way.

The short video feature the Japanese voice actress for C.C. thanking fans for their continued support. The promo then shows a montage of recycled clips from the Code Geass anime series which will be condensed into Sunrise's film trilogy. The trailer also appears to confirm that Code Geass' third season is already in production. A brief message appears in the video, writing, "Code Geass' third chapter is in production. 2017 is the start of a new age."

Of course, there is no confirmation of whether the latter-half of the message refers to the season or not. Fans have known for awhile now that Code Geass intends to debut its first recap film in 2017; Sunrise may have plans to expedite the trilogy's release in order to accommodate a premiere later this year.

If you have not caught up on all things Code Geass, then you still have time. The series is a long one, but it's a well-received one. Aside from the first two seasons, there is another spin-off OVA series which fans were gifted recently. Code Geass: Akito the Exiled is a five-part miniseries that takes place between the two full seasons. Funimation has plans to release the OVA series on home video early next year, so fans will be able to binge it before Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection rears its head.
