When Agent Carter was abruptly cancelled by ABC after its second season, fans of Hayley Atwell's portrayal of Peggy Carter were left to tie up the loose ends left by a sudden cancellation.

After Agent Carter's two season run, Atwell moved to another ABC project — a legal drama called Conviction — which wasn't renewed after it's thirteen-episode first season. Even with over 30 film and television credits on her resume, her most prominent role remains that of Agent Peggy Carter.

Because of that, it was a natural fit that the British actress fielded plenty of questions in relation to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this weekend's Heroes and Villains Fan Fest held in London.

Shortly after sharing what storyline she'd want to have in a third season, she was asked if she thinks a third season would ever even happen.

According to MoviePilot, Atwell seemed to leave the door open, making a point to note that there remains continued support from a very-dedicated fan base.

While making it clear that she wasn't aware of any current on-going conversations about Agent Carter season three amongst the head honchos at Marvel Television, she reiterated that should they order a third season, she'd "do it like a shot."

Atwell even shared that she keeps in contact with some of her fellow MCU colleagues, including Captain America himself, Chris Evans. While recording Captain America: Civil War, Evans reportedly sent Atwell a text reading "I'm so sad today. You just died."

It's quite clear that Marvel isn't done with the actress just quite yet. After making her first appearance in Captain America: The First Avenger, Atwell has gone on to have cameos in three additional MCU movies — Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ant-Man. In addition to her image being used during her funeral scene in Civil War, Atwell has appeared in a pair of Agents of SHIELD episodes.

She's also lent her voice to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in three Marvel-based projects including this year's Avengers: Secret Wars, an animated series separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

You can read the synopsis of Agent Carter's first season below:

"Hold onto your hats as one fearless woman redefines heroism in the perilous arena of international espionage. With equal parts brains, beauty and brawn, Marvel's Agent Carter on ABC ignites a firestorm of adventure, suspense and action-packed fun integral to the origins of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 1946, top SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) operative Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) is still reeling from the loss of Steve Rogers (a.k.a., Captain America). But now that the war is over, peacetime deals her yet another blow as she finds herself marginalized when the men return home from fighting abroad. Now her "missions" consist of fetching coffee and answering phones—until old acquaintance Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) is framed for selling his deadliest weapons to the highest bidder, and he contacts the one person he trusts to clear his name: Agent Carter. Working as a secret double agent with the aid of Stark's butler, Edwin Jarvis (James D'Arcy), Peggy must evade both her SSR colleagues and mysterious foreign assassins as she attempts to track down those responsible and dispose of the weapons before they inflict mass destruction."
