There's a new Attack on Titan game that's in the works for the Nintendo 3DS called Attack on Titan 2: Future Coordinates, an announcement made by Spike Chunsoft revealed.

Revealed in a teaser site created by Japanese video game developer Spike Chunsoft, the newest Attack on Titan game coming to handheld appears to be a sequel to another Nintendo 3DS game from the series called Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains that was originally released in Japan in 2013 and made it to North America and Europe in 2015.

The site is pretty barren as far as news goes for the upcoming title; there's no trailer to be seen yet, and there's exact release date set for the game.

Spike Chunsoft was also responsible for the development of Attack on Titan: Humanity in Chains, a game that was met with less than stellar reviews upon its release. The game's story opens when the Titans first began attacking, and it puts players in control of key characters from the anime such as Eren, Mikasa, and Armen as the player progresses through the story mode. Plenty of animations occurred throughout the game that served to break up the gameplay, and a multiplayer component was included as well.

Despite its attempts to capture the energy of the anime, many critics who reviewed the game were disappointed. Many accounts of the game said that it attempted to rely too heavily on the success of the series and focused far too little on building up the gameplay that's so vital in anime-to-game crossovers. Users who tried out the game were a bit more receptive of the adaptation, acknowledging the limitations of the Nintendo 3DS and mostly saying that it was a decent game for players who were already invested in the series.

From 2013 to now, though, Spike Chunsoft has gotten a bit more experience with games under their belt as they released and localized additional titles. They're responsible for the Danganrompa games, the Zero Escape series, and assisted in the localization of The Witcher: Wild Hunt.

Attack on Titan 2: Future Coordinates is expected to launch in Japan this year, and a trailer for the game is said to air during the next TV airing of Attack on Titan.
