It sounds like it won't be paradise for Riverdale's fan-favorite couple.
In a recent interview with TVLine, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa hinted at the future of 'Bughead', the dynamic between Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart). As he revealed, Jughead's move to Southside High School, as well as the arrival of Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) will cause some "issues of long distance" between the pair.
"Jughead is starting to explore the Southside Serpents subculture, and the world that his father was a part of." Aguirre-Sacasa hinted. "That sort of starts to draw him away from Betty."
But don't worry, Bughead fans. Aguirre-Sacasa also teased that the pair's relationship will try its hardest to endure these newfound challenges.
"It's almost like every force in the universe is out to pry Bughead apart, but Bughead is pretty strong, I'll tell you that much."
Aguirre-Sacasa previewed that arc to ComicBook.com earlier this summer, hinting that even that beloved relationship isn't immune from strife.
"I'm a real believer in the story itself guiding where we go." Aguirre-Sacasa hinted "Listen, I root for them, so I don't want them to have problems, but sometimes you set stories in motion and they themselves take on a life of their own. All relationships are tested, that's the truth. The most casual to the most profound and and intimate relationships. So that is going to happen, but I trust the actors and I trust the storytelling and that that will see everyone through."
Riverdale's second season will premiere on Wendesday, October 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
