Anime fans, you better get ready for one of the medium's most acclaimed franchises to make a comeback. It has been quite some time since any news has come from the Neon Genesis Evangelion fandom The futuristic franchise has kept quite since 2012 when the last film of the 'Rebuild Your Evangelion' series was released. However, it looks like things are about to shake up with the community.

After all, it looks like the fourth film of the most recent Evangelion franchise has been all but confirmed.

Recently, director Hideaki Anno made an appearance in Shibuya for the Shin Godzilla vs. Evangelion Symphony event. The occasion saw talent like Megumi Hayashibara and Satoshi Matsuo attend, but it was the concert itself that piqued the interest of fans.

Towards the concert's end, Anno made an unannounced appearance to thank fans. It was then that a massive screen behind the director showed the following text:

シンゴジラの次回作及び、シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版: || にご期待下さい。

For those of you who don't know Japanese, the phrase roughly translates to, "Please expect the next installment of Shin Godzilla and Shin Evangelion."

Of course, Evangelion fans have known for awhile now that Anno was back at work on the franchise. Last year, the director spoke with Yahoo! Japan about his return to the anime series and made sure fans knew he was sorry for their wait.

"I'll work hard [on it]," he told the site. "I mean, I'm already working hard [on it]."

However, Anno also took time during that Yahoo! interview to speak about a possible Godzilla sequel. It was there the director said he would be fine with another movie, but Anno was not interested in tackling the project. "I've had enough," he confessed. "It'd be more interesting if they changed directors. Toho wouldn't let me do it anyway, because it was so hard."

In Shin Godzilla, it's a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster's weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.
