Fans are currently entrenched within the "Universal Survival" arc of Dragon Ball Super, but one of the show's producers has already hinted at how the story will end.

Despite fans only being midway through the arc, Dragon Ball Super producer Hiroyuki Sakurada confirmed that Jiren would, in fact, be Goku's final opponent. These comments were made during an interview where the producer was discussing the joint one-hour specials for One Piece and Dragon Ball Super which will air on October 8th.

The one-hour block will decide the fate of all the universes. This is a strange comment to make, because if Jiren and Goku were the only remaining fighters, the other universes would already have been erased. Does this mean there is a way for the other universes to return?

In addition, Sakurada confirmed that Goku and Jiren will be the last two remaining fighters, which fans always assumed would be the case. The Universe 11 fighter will be Goku's strongest opponent yet, with fans already seeing glimpses of his strength. Jiren has been pretty quiet in the Tournament of Power so far, but he was easily able to stop Kale's rampage a few weeks ago. This proved Jiren is easily Universe 11's trump card.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST, and Toonami airs the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
