Universal Pictures unveiled its development slate for 2013, including official release dates for comic book adaptations Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, R.I.P.D. and 2 Guns, as well as a release date change for the studio’s next Jurassic Park film.
Kick-Ass 2 will head to theaters on June 28, 2013, with Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Aaron Johnson returning, along with franchise newcomers John Leguizamo and Donald Faison.
2 Guns will star Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg in a police thriller based on the Boom! Studios comic book miniseries; Universal announced today that it will be in cinemas August 16, 2013.
R.I.P.D., a supernatural thriller based on the Dark Horse comic book series, will star Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges. The film version will bow on July 19, 2013, shifted from June 28, its previous release date. The July 19 date means that it will open the week before James Mangold’s The Wolverine, and that there will be at least two consecutive weekends with comic book adaptations opening in theaters.
Jurassic Park, meanwhile, will move from July 19, 2013 to April 5, 2013. The 3D upconversion of the box office smash is the first new Jurassic Park release to hit theaters in more than ten years, but 2014 is set to see the release of Jurassic Park IV.
