Man of Steel and The Dark Knight

In an interview with Collider, Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer revealed the interesting story of how the Man of Steel movie came to be.  It turns out that there might not have been a new Superman movie if not for a problem with the last Batman movie. According to David S. Goyer, he was working on The Dark Knight Rises with director Christopher Nolan, when they became blocked on one of the story elements. David S. Goyer said, "We agreed to part ways for a couple of weeks and just see if something had bubbled at the surface.  So I went back to my home office. I was wasting time and procrastinating and took out an archive edition of some of the original Superman comic books, Action comic books and started rereading them because I couldn't figure out this plot point on Dark Knight Rises, I just randomly sat down one afternoon and wrote up some ideas for Superman." Well, when David S. Goyer reconnected with Christopher Nolan a week later, something very interesting happened. Nolan asked Goyer if he had worked out the problem with The Dark Knight Rises, and when Goyer revealed that he hadn't, Nolan wanted to know what he had been doing, which led to Goyer telling Nolan his idea for Superman. Goyer said, "And he literally called Jeff Robinov, who's the head of Warner Bros, while I was sitting there and said, 'Jeff, Dave just told me this take on Superman and you need to hear it, I'd like to produce it. Can we come in?' And we went in the next day. That's how it happened. No, we weren't trying to do it, it just happened." Apparently, all it took was one call from Christopher Nolan to convince Warner Bros. to have another try at a new Superman movie. Of course, when the man who directed three enormously successful Batman movies says he wants to produce a Superman movie, it probably makes sense for Warner Bros. to take him up on the offer. While David S. Goyer didn't drop any plot spoilers, he did also offer up his opinion on how Man of Steel turned out. After being asked if the movie turned out to be everything he hoped it would be, Goyer said, "Yes, yes. I was very happy." Man of Steel is set to be released in movie theaters in the United States on June 14, 2013.
