With a $116.6 million gross at the box office on its opening weekend, Man Of Steel set a new opening weekend record for the month of June. Man Of Steel finished June as the top grossing movie of month and the second highest grossing movie of the entire year. Man Of Steel's strong June performance helped lift June 2013 to become the highest grossing June at the domestic box office in history. The June 2013 box office finished with an overall gross of $1.25 billion, which was 15% ahead of the old record of $1.09 billion set in June 2009. Of course, Superman didn't do it alone, as he had help from magicians, monsters, and zombies. Even though Now You See Me debuted at the end of May, it took in most of its box office in June. Monsters University also proved to be a monster hit in June, and World War Z defied negative predictions and actually had a respectable box office opening. Of the June premiering movies, Man Of Steel is first with $251.6 million, Monsters University is second with $178.3 million, and World War Z is third with $128.1 million.
