The Host

's Boyd Holbrook, Jack Reacher's Jai Courtney, Tom Cocquerel, Wilson Bethel and Sam Reid are among those auditioning to play Kyle Reeze in Terinator: Genesis, Variety reports. The story indicates that the decision may be made soon, as those listed will all be testing for the role on Monday. The character was first played by Michael Biehn in The Terminator, when he was sent back in time to protect the mother of John Connor, and then turned out to be key to Connor being conceived at all. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke will play Sarah Connor and Zero Dark Thirty's Jason Clarke (no relation) will be her son John. Terminator: Genesis will be released on July 1st, 2015 and is part of a big push to capitalize on the property, the license to which the studio might lose when the current contract expires. Rumor has it Terminator creator James Carmeron (director of Titanic and Avatar) may mothball the franchise for a while--either retire it altogether or at a minimum put it up on a shelf until the audience is good and hungry. Like Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a TV series set in the world of Terminator will launch soon and share continuity elements with the upcoming film. According to a December report, both Terminator: Genesis and the as-yet-untitled TV series will follow a critical moment from the first Terminator film, but they will tell completely different stories, which will intersect in some surprising ways. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to return, although in what capacity is unclear.
