Guardians of the Galaxy

The first full-length trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy will debut tonight, but Mavel has already released a 15-second teaser trailer packed with space operatic goodness. To make sure you didn't miss anything, here's a play-by-play of the first teaser.

Korath the Pursuer

The opening shot is of Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou), who is armed but lowers his weapon to ask the question, "Who Are You?"

Star-Lord

The next shot is of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), suggesting that Quill is who Korath is speaking to. Of course, they're not seen in the same shot, so that could just be a trick of editing.

Star-Lord

The next shot is of Quill's silhouette, stomping forward with a pistol in each hand. Dual pistols are Star-Lord's favored, trademark weapon choice.

Gamora

Next we see Gamora (Zoe Saldana), the most dangerous woman in the universe. She certainly doesn't look dressed for battle. In fact, she's barely looks dressed at all, with a bare back and what looks like some alien kind of earrings that connect both ears.

Drax the Destroyer

Next we see Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) framed by explosions. These explosions could be happening anywhere, a spaceship maybe, but the overhead walk behind Drax seems like the kind of thing you'd see in a prison, which is where we know the Guardians first meet during the film. Maybe this is a jailbreak scene.

Korath the Pursuer

Next we get another shot of Korath the Pursuer. It looks like he's doing some pursuing in a pretty rainy and alien looking environment, likely one of the exotic worlds the film will visit.

The Milano

Space battles! The ship in the foreground is the Milano, Quill's spacecraft. The ship in the background looks like it could be the underside of the formidable looking ship we saw in concept art previously.

Star-Lord

Next we get a shot of Quill being poked with a stun baton of some sort, while a humanoid child watches. At first I wanted to say that his blue assailant was Yondu (Michael Rooker), but he seems to be missing the Mohawk. It might be one of Quill's jailers at the prison, since there does seem to be several cell doors behind him and a similar architecture to the shot with Drax, or maybe it's one of Yondu's crewmen.

Star-Lord in The Milano

We follow that up with a few quick shots of Quill piloting the Milano. The sky looks the same as the previous shot of the ship, so there's a good chance this is from the same set piece.

Guardians of the Galaxy Prisoners

Next we get a look at some scary looking aliens dressed in yellow. Space prison inmates most likely, and they seem like they're spoiling for a fight.

Drax the Destroyer

Drax in combat. The hallway he's standing in has an interesting, ancient look to it, which you'll see again. That also looks like green blood spattering all over the place, but could be something else we'll see more of in a minute.

Gamora

Now Gamora is ready for battle, and seems to be setting off explosions (or at least standing near them).

Star-Lord

Next, Quill is entering a structure that looks similar to the Aztec or Mayan pyramids. It's possible this is where he finds the orb that everyone is chasing after, or maybe he goes here to find out more about it. His hand motions make it look like he's taking off his Sony Walkman as well.

Nebula

Next we get a shot of Nebula (Karen Gillan, who famously shaved her head for the part), an agent of Thanos. The background looks like she may be in the same vicinity as Quill.

Guardians of the Galaxy

Shot of a spaceship, possibly the same underside we saw in the sky with the Milano. Based on the design, I'm willing to guess that it belongs to Ronan (Lee Pace). Have to wonder what those green things dropping out of it are. They have wings, so maybe they're some sort of swarm fighters. Perhaps that wasn't blood we saw surrounding Drax earlier either.

Star-Lord

A shot of quill with his iconic Star-Lord helmet. The landscape looks cloudy and barren, so perhaps he's being chased by Korath.

Groot and Rocket Raccoon

There's Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) firing a large gun while perched on the back of Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel). The environment looks similar to where we saw Drax earlier, with the explosions, so maybe this is the same prison break (or whatever is going on) as we got a glimpse of before. This is the only shot if Rocket Raccoon and Groot, so I have to wonder if Marvel is purposely keeping their exposure to a minimum to not frighten away unfamiliar movie-goers, though the trailer is clearly more focused on Peter Quill than any of the other characters.

Star-Lord

And finally, a last shot of a shirtless Peter Quill. He's also soaking wet, so maybe this occurs after the chase with Korath. Or maybe he just got out of the shower and those machines are fancy space blow-dryers. They're probably more menacing then that…maybe another form of torture from the blue man we saw shock him earlier. The full trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy will debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight before heading into theaters on Friday. Guardians of the Glaxy will hit theaters August 1, 2014.
