Dan Goldman, the Eisner-nominated creator of Red Light Properties, will soon take on his first work-for-hire superhero comics gig, the writer/artist revealed via social media. Goldman, who has worked with ACT-I-VATE and was nominated for the Best Digital Comic Eisner for the 2007 mixed media graphic novel Shooting War with journalist Anthony Lappe, said last week on Facebook that he had just taken his first work-for-hire comics. "SOMEBODY landed his first mainstream work-for-hire comics gig yesterday," Goldman wrote. "Stay tuned for details." It may be telling that he was visiting Los Angeles at the time, thus making it seem likely he was pitching an LA-based publisher (perhaps at DC Comics's Burbank office?), but obviously that's no guarantee. And his immediately-previous post had been about Marvel's lineage of black superheroes, so one could just as reasonably intuit that he was reading that piece for research on an upcoming gig. Whoever he's working for, he's doing that research now. "My job for the rest of the day involves reading a stack of superhero comics & writing down what twitches they give my own gooey brains," Goldman wrote to Facebook yesterday, adding, "it takes years of work to look this lazy online." Goldman's Red Light Properties, currently published digitally by Monkeybrain Comics, just got a print edition through IDW Publishing. While most of the content is remastering existing books that he's remastering from previous digital publication through Tor and as stand-alone eBooks, new RLP is planned from Monkeybrain this year. Since Goldman both writes and draws Red Light Properties (as well as personally "remastering" any of the older material for comiXology release), it seems likelyi that whatever work-for-hire he'd do would be just writing, unless new RLP is to be put on hold. Goldman also serves as Story Sync Experience Architect on the second screen applications for AMC Television's flagship original series Breaking Bad, The Killing and The Walking Dead (for which he also wrote The Walking Dead Social Game). Red Light Properties #9: The Hot Seat will be released via comiXology tomorrow. You can pre-order it here.
