Captain America The Winter Soldier Box Office

The official numbers are finally out for the U.S. opening day box office for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The official number came in right in the middle of estimates that ranged from $35 million to $39 million. Captain America: The Winter Soldier scored an opening day box office of $37.04 million on Friday. The $37.04 million number includes $10.2 million from late night previews on Thursday. It's a huge increase over the first movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, which took in $25.7 million on its opening day. The close to $12 million increase is even more amazing when taking into consideration that the first Captain America movie opened in July, which is generally considered a hotter month for movies than April. In comparison to other post-Avengers movies from Marvel Studios, Captain America: The Winter Soldier beat the opening day box office of Thor: The Dark World, which took in $31.8 million. However, Captain America: The Winter Soldier fell short of the opening day box office of Iron Man 3, which took in $68.8 million.
