In a classic case of the internet finding something "new" on an old video and running with it, an old comment Ben Affleck made about his prospective Batman solo film is spurring a lot of discussion about what such a movie might look like today.

Affleck is reportedly working with DC Entertainment chief Geoff Johns to develop a Batman solo film spinning out of his appearances in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, but that film might go in a little bit of a different direction than fans imagine.

With movies like Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and even Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, a trend has emerged in blockbuster movies...

...apparently everybody loves colons.

No, what it really is, is that comic book movies are getting less abstract and more specific. For years, film adaptations would take the core concept of a character or team and build it out into an entirely new adventure with little or nothing to do with the comics source material. Recently, the trend has been to adapt or at least closely mirror popular, existing comics.

it's hard to argue with how effective that's been at keeping fans engaged, but Affleck's Bat-movie would apparently be a return to form: a story from Affleck that isn't based on any particular comic book run.

...Except that it kind of will be, because he totally wants to steal some of the best things from the comics and put them into his original framework.

"I think what I would do is, I would probably do in some ways what Zack [Snyder] did with this movie, which is to borrow great stories from the great comic books but create an original story around it," Affleck said in an interview embedded above. "I wouldn't want fans to already know the story, but I would borrow -- steal -- great things that have been done before in the comics."

There is no current plan for the Batman solo film officially, but everyone has heard rumors. It's supposedly in development and will be fast-tracked once the script is completed.
