Noted Aquaman fan (and former Aquaman comic book writer) Geoff Johns has recently taken a more active role in developing DC Entertainment's film slate.

So with Aquaman director James Wan doing a handful of recent interviews in which he's being quizzed about the DC Extended Universe -- and with reports of Warner Bros. reworking their DC management team, that's a natural place to go.

According to Wan, though, the management shift hasn't been all that significant -- and the most significant part of it, Johns's increased role, plays into Wan's interest in the film.

"To be honest, it's not as dramatic as the press is making it out to be – from what I'm seeing," Wan told CinemaBlend. "And right now I'm seeing everything as more an outsider looking into this box. So from that perspective, it's really cool that it's not crazy, crazy dramatic. I think it's great. Geoff Johns is super talented, super smart. Part of what got me excited about the Aquaman character is his re-envisioning of Aquaman, the character, with The New 52. And that's super exciting. And I'm working very closely with him, and I want to work with him very closely to shape the story that I want to tell."

Johns has been pretty excited to see the character heading to the big screen, too. When we caught up with Johns at the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice premiere, we asked him how big it was for him to finally see a big-screen Aquaman.

"It's massive," Johns enthused. "Jason [Momoa] and I were talking about Aquaman and I love that people underestimate the character. I feel like hopefully we'll be able to share the love that we have as readers of the character because the jokes about him are fun, but he's got so much depth to him, no pun intended. It's really great to see him finally on the big screen."

Aquaman is due in theaters in 2018, with the character showing up in next year's Justice League film.
