When The Flash returns for Season 3 later this year, fans are in for one weird ride. The showrunners over at The CW are promising fans the time-altering events from last season will hugely impact The Flash and the entire DC CW Universe in a big way. To ease those fans, cast members have steadily teased updates on the show, and no one has been more vocal than Grant Gustin. But, today, the actor left fans confused when he posted a strange set photo.

Taking to Instagram, Grant uploaded a photo of him on set as Barry Allen. Dressed in the Flash's red-and-gold suit, the actor is seen carefully perched upon a wooden riser. Fans can also see Grant giving a thumbs-up to someone off-screen, but most of them are too busy gawping over the set behind him to notice the nod. The shadowy set looks like something out of a steampunk fantasy as there's copper plumbing and rusty metal galore.

Currently, fans are not sure what to make of the setting. Some believe the rundown set might be involved with Gorilla Grodd as he's currently tucked away in Gorilla City. Others believe the locale is part of a villain's lair. Maybe Savitar or Doctor Alchemy enjoy a grungy aesthetic?

However, the dingy set could be any number of things on The Flash next season considering the Flashpoint storyline. The event was set into play when after Barry went back in time last season to save his mother from being murdered. Thrust into a new universe, the young hero will undoubtedly be visiting some new locations in Central City.

Speaking about Flashpoint, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has said it will mostly alter Barry's life. "Most of the changes are to Barry's life and him being at the nexus of these changes," he said. "He's put all of the people that are in his life — Joe [Jesse L. Martin], Iris [Candice Patton], Cisco [Carlos Valdes], and Caitlin [Danielle Panabaker] — and spun them into different ways."

And, in a separate interview, Kreisberg also teased Season 3 will make Barry question what it truly means to be a hero. "One of the themes is what does it mean to have power, what you do with that power, and is power ultimately corrupting?" he explained.

The third season of The Flash will air on Tuesday, October 4th at 8 p.m. ET.
