This January, he will return!

After tonight's fall finale of Gotham, FOX released a sneak preview for the second-half of the season, and it solely focused on the return of Jerome Valeska (portrayed Cameron Monaghan), who is currently considered the leading candidate to eventually become The Joker. While most of the footage is from the second season, there are some new shots of a mysterious person walking toward a row of large containers that presumably contain and preserve human bodies. Me thinks, Jerome is inside one of them.

In August, Executive Producer John Stephens confirmed that Jerome would return, though he didn't explain how the murderous and demented character would be ressurected. Jerome was killed in the second season when Theo Galavan stabbed him in the neck. However, Stephens did say Jerome's return will be built-up over the second-half of Season 3, but his actual return would be saved for Season 4.

"You'll have these underground movements that have started to talk about Jerome and what he represented and how he's going to come back like in the days of John the Baptist," Stephens told Zap2it. "Setting the stage that if there is a Season 4, hopefully we'll bring that back in a much bigger way and you'll see these different versions of the Joker myth."

Gotham is based upon DC characters and is produced by Warner Bros. Television. Bruno Heller (The Mentalist, Rome), Danny Cannon (the CSI franchise, Nikita), John Stephens (Gossip Girl) and Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist) serve as executive producers on the series.

The second-half of the third season of Gotham will begin airing in January on FOX.
