Several new titles have been announced for the Nintendo Switch recently, and it looks like indie developer and publisher tinyBuild is ready to submit another title to the console called Phantom Trigger.

Published by tinyBuild and developed by Bread Team, Phantom Trigger is characterized as an intense slasher game that utilizes RPG and roguelike elements. The top-down arcade style game follows the progression of a protagonist named Stan who has to hack and slash his way through a bunch of multi-eyed adversaries while traversing frigid, fiery, and otherworldly environments.

It's got a flashy dystopian feel to it, and the combination of neon graphics with the music (if they trailer's music is to make it into the release title) give it an 80s vibe. Stan makes his way dashing through enemies while freezing enemies and setting them ablaze, so perhaps the game will feature some abilities that change or unlocked depending on the environment the current level holds.

There's not a great deal out news-wise right now about what can be expected in the full game, but tinyBuild does have a brief list of some features that players can expect once the game drops on the Switch:

  • A deep combat system focused on unlocking combos and upgrading weapons
  • Handcrafted story driven levels mixed with roguelike-style dungeons
  • A branching story with multiple endings

Publisher tinyBuild began amassing attention today on Twitter by saying that they were getting ready to announce a new Nintendo Switch game today, a tweet that they followed up on two hours later by unveiling the title and a link to the alpha version. If you're selected to be a part of the alpha stage after signing up, you can play through two of the fire levels to see what you think of the early stages of the game and give some feedback before the game's release.

There's not an exact release date at this time, but Phantom Trigger has a projected timeframe of being released during the summer of this year. The game will join Mr. Shifty on the Switch, a beat 'em up title that was published by tinyBuild and released in April.
