Tokyo RPG Factory, the Square-Enix-owned development suit behind I Am Setsuna, announced a brand new game today. Lost Sphear will be coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Steam some time in "early 2018." Watch the reveal trailer above.

"The adventure of Lost Sphear begins in a remote town where a young boy, Kanata, awakens from a devastating dream to find his hometown disappearing. To stop the world from being lost forever, Kanata and his comrades set out to rebuild the world around them with the power of Memory by manifesting thoughts into matter.

"Expanding upon the beloved features from their debut title, I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphear features an enhanced gameplay system with a revamped ATB battle system where players can strategize and freely adjust their placement mid-fight, seamless environments, and various locations to explore."

As you can see from the trailer, Lost Sphear boasts many similarities to I Am Setsuna. The visuals are comparable, the tone and setting seem pretty melancholic and dark, and the music is beautiful. The game will be available digitally across all platforms, but players who want a physical copy of the game will have to order it from the Square Enix store, which will be the sole distributor of the physical edition for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Anyone who pre-orders the game from the Square Enix store will receive two music tracks as a gift at launch.

Square Enix and Tokyo RPG Factory are even promoting Lost Sphear in a way reminiscent of the months leading up to I Am Setsuna's launch, promising a return to their JRPG roots. "The next evolution in this new golden age of JRPG's arrives with Lost Sphear, bringing a fresh take on classic RPG gameplay! A young man, who suffered a phenomenon that he had never seen, faces an ominous power that threatens the fabric of reality. Awaken the power of memory to restore what was lost! Muster different memory and craft the world around you in a journey to save the world."

It doesn't get much more old-school than that, which is precisely why we're keeping an eye on this one. Hopefully we'll get to see a little more gameplay in a couple weeks at E3. We'll keep you posted.
