Players are already grabbing buddies to play Far Cry 5 with through online co-op when the game releases, but the mission progress distribution apparently won't be equal between the two players.

According to the German gaming site GameStar, the benefits of being player one are still alive and persisting in the latest Far Cry game. The site reported that only the player who's hosting the game will be able to benefit from the progress that's gained through completing missions.

When the game was first announced, it was revealed that co-op gameplay would be featured so that players could take on the Montana setting with a friend to help them along the way. The game was marketed as being completable entirely in co-op, which still looks as though it'll be technically true, though not exactly the way that many multiplayers would have hoped. In order for both players to have their progress recorded, one player will host the mission and complete it, then a swap will have to be made to that the other player can do the same. This might not matter to some players who just want to experience the story, but for achievement and trophy hunters who want to have the game fully completed, it could take twice as long to unlock the achievements if you've already committed to playing through the campaign with a friend.

Even without the lack of progress being awarded to each member of the co-op team, Far Cry 5 still has made some improvements over the co-op system compared to Far Cry 4. In the previous game in the series, players could play in a co-op mode, but they couldn't play through the main story while working with a teammate. Only side missions were accessible to the co-op modes, something that's been improved and expanded on in Far Cry 5.

Another change that's been announced for Far Cry 5 is the removal of towers and the mini map. Ubisoft said that the reason behind the decision was to promote exploration and logical decision-making as opposed to staring at a corner of your screen and looking to towers for guidance.

Far Cry 5 is expected to release on Feb. 27, 2018, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
