Big news has come regarding the upcoming Runes Reforged system in League of Legends as it was recently announced that players will soon have all IP spent on runes during a certain time period refunded.

In the update posted in the League boards' Dev Corner, Riot Cactopus let players know about the upcoming change, saying that if you bought any runes with your IP from May 30 until a future date that has yet to be announced, you'll have all of your IP that you spent returned to you. That doesn't apply to rune pages though as those will still be transitioning into the new system, so don't expect to buy up a bunch of rune pages and be reimbursed later on.

"This deal is effective now, so if you've got the IP for some runes you want, go ahead and grab 'em!" Riot Cactopus wrote. "We'll refund you later. We were originally going to roll these changes out with our bigger announcement in September, but we wanted to put this out there now since many of you have been asking about rune prices."

There's not a solid date on when the refund will come to players as Cactopus stated, but he added that before the transition to the new rune system is fully made, they'll be drastically reducing the price of all of the runes in the store. After they reduce those prices, refunds won't be given out for runes purchased during that window, so you can either buy them at full price now and be reimbursed eventually or buy them later at a massive discount for an IP loss before they go away for good.

Aside from the initial subject of the upcoming rune refunds, players in the comments stuck to a side topic of the discussion and asked about how those players who bought so many runes in recent years would be compensated when the new system invalidates the current runes. Cactopus said that that's one feature that's still being discussed, but for now, they wanted to address the more accessible question of what's going on with soon-to-be outdated rune prices.

A bigger announcement regarding the whole Runes Reforged system is coming in September, so we can expect to hear something by then, if not before.
