Square Enix revealed today that Comrades, the wild multiplayer expansion for Final Fantasy XV will soon be getting a closed beta of sorts. If you own Final Fantasy XV and its season pass on PS4 or Xbox One, then you can look forward to a special multiplayer preview starting next week! Square Enix made sure to point out that you must own the game and the season pass, you must be subscribed to PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold respectively, and your progress from the test version will not be carrying over to the full version of Comrades when the expansion launches.

"Available from Thursday, August 3rd (5 a.m. Pacific) ~ Wednesday, August 9th (12 a.m. Pacific), the Closed Online Test will take place simultaneously worldwide. Players will be able to create their own custom avatars and join up to three friends to participate in exciting multiplayer quests to bring the Light back to the Kingdom of Lucis. Players will also be able to interact with friends through voice chat and preset chat messages."

Details are still quite thin, and we don't have an official Comrades trailer just yet, but from the looks of things it seems to be a pretty standard online RPG experience. You and up to three friends will venture forth and complete various quests and take down big baddies for rewards.

You'll be able to play as your own uniquely designed avatar, or as Noctis and the crew later on once they're released. Here are a few more details of you can expect in the test version when it kicks off next week:
