The basketball world was shaken to its core yesterday with the news that Cleveland Cavaliers superstar Kyrie Irving was being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. But it affected a certain party a little deeper than expected.

See, Irving originally signed a deal with 2K Sports to be the cover star for NBA 2K18 – and he still is – but the thing is, he appears on the cover in his Cleveland Cavaliers get-up. Now, apparently, that's going to need to be changed up a bit, so that he's now featured in his green Celtics garb.

The team acknowledged this in a rather humorous manner on Twitter, seeing the news and simply saying, "Whoops." You can see that tweet below.

The Internet was more than ready to respond, though, as some of the fans out there have already produced a number of hilarious mock-ups with an updated cover. PRMoney2135, for example, had the following tweet that features a funny little replacement.

A Twitter user by the name of Cakh5050 also had a hilarious, Photoshop-enabled upgrade with a whole lot of green stenciling.

And then there's YTry_, who produced this rather hilarious hand-drawn get-up that's as funny as it's going to get.

But, honestly, 2K Sports will likely just get together with Irving and re-shoot him in his new wardrobe, so that they can get the cover back on the right track. Perhaps it can take a note from the official ESPN Twitter account, which actually had a great revision of what Irving might look like in traditional Celtics gear.

That won't slow down the game's momentum, though. 2K Sports has still confirmed that the game will still make its scheduled release date, and the special edition cover, featuring Shaquille O'Neal, will stay the way that it is. So fans can still look forward to partaking in plenty of dunkfests when the game arrives on September 19th for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.
