PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds continues to smash personal records with the game reaching just over 1 million concurrent players on Friday.

The king of the hill game is no stranger to toppling other games on the leaderboards since its recent release when it quickly sold over 1 million copies – all while still being in early access – but the concurrent player mark shows that those players that purchased the game aren't going anywhere anytime soon. At its peak when it crossed the 1 million player milestone, there were 1,028,540 players shooting and smacking each other to be the last man standing, a number that's actually an increase from the amount that was tweeted by the game's creator to commemorate the achievement.

To put into perspective just how popular the game has become since it landed in Steam during late March, the two closest games that follow PUBG are Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, two games that have a massive following and have been talked about quite a bit when discussing the new game's success. Beating Dota 2 in any capacity seemed like a longshot even when PUBG was climbing past other games like Grand Theft Auto V and Rocket League, but after it beat out the MOBA once in terms of players, it proved that there's little in the way of PUBG's rise to the top.

The game's success certainly hasn't been restricted to just peak players either. At the time of this writing, the number of active players dropped to just under 600,000, but it's still having no trouble holding the No. 1 spot. Aside from the game selling tons of copies and boasting an insane amount of active and peak players throughout the days, PUBG also attracts a massive following on Twitch as well. Just recently, the game overthrew League of Legends as the most-watched game on Twitch during the month of August, something that hasn't been done in years by any other game.

PUBG has a new update coming soon with more features on the way, and with how fast the game is growing, it'll be exciting to see how many more records it can break by the end of the month.
