PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds Breaks Dota 2's Concurrent Players Record

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has successfully smashed another record by now having the highest concurrent player count ever recorded on Steam.

After brushing past multiple other games and accomplishing plenty of milestones on its own, PUBG seemed to have but one major target to shoot for next: Having more players play the game at one time than any other Steam game. With games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Grand Theft Auto V trailing behind PUBG for a while now, Dota 2 is one of the last major competitors for the battle royale game.

The popular MOBA – a Valve game itself – recently held the record for the most concurrent players on Steam, a record that was toppled by around 50,000 players active in PUBG. Brendan Greene, the creator of PUBG, tweeted about the news recently today with a chart comparing the lofty numbers that both games have accumulated since their release.

After the player count was first noticed and publicized, the number of concurrent players actually climbed a bit higher. The number rose by a couple thousand users, a drop in the bucket for a game that already has over 1 million concurrent players and counting.

But when considering the numbers that have been reported for both games as well as what stage of development they're in, PUBG breaking Dota 2's record by having so many peak players is even more impressive considering the game is not even finished yet. PUBG has reached all of these goals and milestones without even having left its early access stages, and more content and updates are still on the way to help the number of players grow.

With the Dota 2 record out of the way, it looks like there's little competition for PUBG in the future. However, the game's creator recently spoke about the possibility of becoming as big as League of Legends, so perhapst that's the next goal for PUBG.
