This year has been a good one for Sonic the Hedgehog, between his incredible retro revival Sonic Mania, and the forthcoming Sonic Generations-inspired Sonic Forces, which arrives next month.

But let's not forget the already great games that have come out in the past, from racing to fighting to platforming adventures with a twist – like that time Sonic transformed into a werewolf. (We thought it was funny, too.)

Sony certainly remembers, and that's why the company has launched a flash sale with a number of Sonic games available for dirt cheap on PlayStation 3. The sale is taking place through October 10th, and you can essentially get all the games available for around $50 or so – and there are quite a few.

Here's the breakdown of what's available, as well as recommendations on what you should pick up:

  • Sonic Adventure- $1.99
  • Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)- $1.99
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2- $1.99
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I- $3.74
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II- $4.99
  • Sonic Unleashed- $7.49
  • Sonic Generations- $9.99
  • Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed- $9.99
  • Sonic CD- $2.49
  • Sonic the Fighters- $2.49
  • Sonic Adventure 2- $3.74

Obviously the Genesis games are essentials for those of you that want to live more classic memories outside of what Sonic Mania has to offer, but we also recommend Sonic Generations. It's one of those "blast-from-the-past" sort of games that combines 2D and 3D platforming blissfully into one neat little package, with a number of old-school levels to choose from.

Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed is a must as well, serving as a great alternative to the Mario Kart games with a slew of playable characters and worlds based around their respective releases. Plus there's totally a Panzer Dragoon level, and being able to race against a ninja like Joe Musashi is utterly worthwhile. (Wreck-It Ralph, too!)

Finally, Sonic CD – it's a must. It's a great way to get into the classic Sega CD game without paying astronomical prices for a copy.

(We wish Sonic Mania was on sale, but it's a tremendous deal as it is for $20!)

If it's new Sonic stuff you're after, you can get Sonic Mania now, and pick up Sonic Forces for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch on November 7th.
