The peculiar controversy surrounding Pokemon Go supposedly being used as a Russian tool to influence the U.S. election has made its rounds up to the late-night talk shows where Stephen Colbert recently had a brief segment of his show devoted to the bizarre report.
For those who might’ve missed the news or are still understandably confused regarding why Russia, U.S. politics, and Pokemon Go have any relation, CNN recently reported that a Russian-linked agency created a group made to pose as a part of the Black Lives Matter movement. Through the use of Pokemon Go, the false group intended to promote racial tension within the States during the time of the election.
While the memes and reactions to the situation were plentiful, it was only a matter of time before Colbert provided his take on the situation.
As per his usual style of social commentary, Colbert had plenty of fuel for his jokes when combining U.S. politics and Pokemon Go.
He began by taking a shot at Pokemon Go itself, referring to it as a game that’s been forgotten since last year, before moving onto Russia itself. From there, he moved onto a particularly lewd joke about President Trump and the innocent Squirtle, a joke that’s surely been made before but perhaps not yet in the context of this topic.
Of course, he also took a jab at Hillary Clinton and her campaign efforts as well as her questionable reference to Pokemon Go in an attempt to appeal to younger voters, so everyone was still fair game during Colbert’s latest segment.
