Ed Boon Celebrates 25th Anniversary Of Mortal Kombat With New Mobile Game Additions

It's hard to believe that Mortal Kombat is celebrating its 25th anniversary. We felt like it was just yesterday that we were playing the original arcade game, tearing the hearts of out of opponents and decapitating some poor sap with the help of Sub-Zero.

And to celebrate, producer Ed Boon, who now works with NetherRealm Studios on Injustice 2, has posted a new video announcing a number of new additions to the company's mobile games, including WWE Immortals, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X. While that may bum out a few console players, keep in mind that he could always announce something for them sooner rather than later.

The trailer, which can be seen in the tweet below, showcases the newest additions to the games, which we've broken down underneath it:

Injustice: Gods Among Us now has the classic Scorpion look from the original Mortal Kombat game, along with his trademark taunts ("Get over here!") completely intact. He can also whip around an opponent pretty good with his chains, it seems.

Meanwhile, in WWE Immortals, Raiden from Mortal Kombat is making his debut in the game – but with a twist. He's portrayed by New Day member and WWE superstar Xavier Woods, though he has many of the warrior's electrical abilities completely intact. Guess that's something Austin Creed can mention on his UpUpDwnDwn channel, yeah?

The video also reiterated that Raiden is available in the mobile version of Injustice 2, although he's in the console versions as well.

Finally, a trio of new skins have been added to Mortal Kombat X, and they're fun little throwbacks to fans that remember the original games. Shao Khan, Tigar Fury Goro and Klassic Goro are now available for selection, so you can pummel those weaker opponents with the fury of bosses and watch them fly across the screen.

The characters should be available for download now, and, again, fingers crossed that we'll see some announcements for the console games in the days ahead. After all, fighting fans love those versions, too.
