What's Next for Captain America After Captain America: Civil War?

Captain America: Civil War lays the groundwork for many a change by movies end, and part of that change is Captain America's new leadership role.

Cap finds himself as leader of a new team of heroes that find themselves at odds with the law, something he has staunchly defended his entire life. In the direct fallout from Civil War, he and his stablemates are fugitives from the government due to the Sokovia Accords. Steve also didn't earn any new fans when he broke his team out of The Raft High-Security Prison, but they kind of brought that on themselves.

Trying to pinpoint exactly what storyline Cap will undertake on route to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 is not easy, but luckily we can look to the comics for some clues.

Expect a remix of the New Avengers arcs to occur in the films, as I can see Cap and his ragtag group following the same overall outline, saving lives and stopping villains all the while being hunted down by the government and their old allies. The name might be Secret Avengers, New Avengers, or something else entirely, but the idea is the same. In the films, Cap has never proactively operated against the government. Sure, you expose some corruption here, rally against a law there, but this is different, and it will be a journey that will show just how resilient and steadfast a leader Cap truly is.

This would take them into Avengers: Infinity War Part 1. Since the group operates outside the government, they could possibly stumble upon some government secrets, leading them on a path towards Thanos and his assemblage of the Infinity Stones. At some point, Vision will factor in, and thus, you have the two groups forming an uneasy alliance towards a common enemy. Ultimately it is a Hodge-podge mix of New Avengers and The Infinity Gauntlet. This is just a best guess, going off the clues we have at hand.
