Ever since fans learned that Logan would be the final appearance of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, fans have felt bittersweet about the project. While audiences are excited to see the franchise return with a gritty, rated-R edge, there are others who wish the Aussie actor would stick around. However, it seems like Jackman is heading towards the finish line, and he is enjoying every moment of it. Earlier today, Jackman took time to celebrate his work on Logan and dropped a new photo from the film which shows him on the run.
“Fight or Flight,” Jackman captioned the image over on Twitter. The simple, blurred picture shows the actor running full speed ahead in a dense forest. Dressed in a white tank top and dark pants, Jackman’s rippling muscles can be seen and are already make some fans reconsider their recent New Year’s resolutions.
Over the past few weeks, a slew of teaser images and stills from Logan have been released on social media. Jackman’s picture is just the latest to hit the Internet, and the drops have made fans more hyped for the darker blockbuster than ever before. And, according to director James Mangold, fans should be excited.
"Spectacle is not enough," Mangold said when asked to describe the film.
"The thing that we're trying to differently is trying to invest in character," he continued. "The fact is that a lot of these movies are a collection of set pieces of action with very short connective things basically explaining how we go from action piece A to action piece B. We wanted to make a movie that's really a drama. If you cut out the action, what you'd have is a powerful drama about interesting character. Whether that makes us different or not, I'll leave others to judge but I tihnk it was our goal to make a movie that earned its audience from feeling real. Really feeling human or feeling intimate."
Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.
