In a world full of superhero adaptations, it looks like Freeform is ready to get their comic book on. The all-ages network has a slew of teen dramas in its line-up already, and Marvel will add yet another to its docket next year. When 2018 rolls around, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger will see itself premiere, and production on the show’s pilot episode wrapped not long ago. With the show being kept under-wraps, fans have lots of questions about the project’s details. So, to ease their curiosity, Disney has answered at least one of their most pressing questions.
Recently, Mark Endẽmano spoke at a Disney Distribution presentation, and the senior vice president confirmed the show’s first season would have ten episodes. The project is still slated to debut in 2018, but no further details were given about its impending premiere.
The executive also took a moment to describe how the show’s romance between leads Ty and Tandy would separate it from other Marvel shows.
“Cloak & Dagger is about character and emotion above all. It tells of a romance between Tandy and Tyrone in a way that we haven’t really seen before in a Marvel TV series,” he said. “So think Romeo and Juliet though I can tell you that they won’t be dying at the end of the first episode!”
Of course, the couple isn’t the only to make a way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On the big screen, Tony Stark’s romance with Pepper Potts had plenty envious, and Peggy Carter’s eye never strayed far from Steve Rogers. Marvel’s television series have also featured their fair share of affairs. Agents of SHIELD touts the fabled FitzSimmons ship while Luke Cage had people feeling warm and fuzzy over Claire’s interest in the Harlem hero.
You can read up on the show's official description below:
It is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved Marvel characters. Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul.
Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.
Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.
The cast also includes Andrea Roth (Blue Bloods) as Melissa Bowen, Tandy’s mom; Gloria Reuben (ER) as Tyrone’s mother, Adina Johnson; Miles Mussenden (Bloodline) as Tyrone’s father, Michael Johnson; Carl Lundstedt (Grey’s Anatomy) as Liam, Tandy’s partner in crime; James Saito (Life of Pi) as Dr. Bernard Sanjo, and J.D. Evermore (The Walking Dead) as Detective Connors.
Marvel's Cloak and Dagger is scheduled to hit Freeform sometime in winter of 2018.
