Artist Jonboy Meyers has revealed a set of unused X-Men character designs originally intended for use in X-Men Gold.
The designs reveal new costumes for the X-Men Gold team, including Kitty Pryde, Storm, Old Man Logan, Prestige, Colossus, and Nightcrawler. The designs also reveal a new look for Omega Red, an X-Men villain created in the 1990s who hasn’t been seen in some time, leaving fans to wonder if there’s still plans to bring him into X-Men Gold.
In his Facebook post, Meyers – whose credits include work on Teen Titans, Spawn, and Marvel’s new Inhumans title Royals - revealed that he was working on X-Men Gold but ultimately decided to pass to “do my own thing instead.”

The job of the lead artist on X-Men Gold ultimately went to Ardian Syaf, who drew three issues before being fired for hiding controversial messages in his artwork. RB Silva and Ken Lashley, who were both already set to work on X-Men Gold both had their debuts moved up to cover Syaf’s absence. Marvel plans to replace Syaf, but the new artist hasn’t yet been announced.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, X-Men Gold writer Mark Guggenheim stated that the book's mission was to move forward by looking backward.
“To restore the X-Men to a place where they're superheroes in a world that
“That's also the team's mission statement,” Guggenheim continued. “The team is trying again, after all these years of dealing with these existential threats, to reestablish themselves among humanity as good people, as people who can show that mutants can be trusted and that mutants need not be feared.”
X-Men Gold wrapped its first three-issue arc earlier in May. RB Silva will make his debut on the series in this week’s X-Men Gold #4, launching a brand new story. The issue’s solicitation can be found below.
