Thor: Ragnarok is looking to put the hammer down at the box office, already earning projections for domestic ticket sales in the 9-figure range.
In a new projection from BoxOffice.com, Thor: Ragnarok is expected to haul in $100,000,000 in its opening three-day wide release run in the United States. Furthermore, the projection gives the Marvel Studios film a quarter-million dollar run total domestically.
2011's original Thor film opened to $65 million, going on to collect $181 million domestically in its entire run. The first sequel of the trilogy, Thor: The Dark World, hauled in $85 million in its first weekend at the box office and took in $206 million in its run.
Thor: Ragnarok will likely outperform its two preceding films in the Thor franchise by considerable amounts as well-received trailers have offered a brand new appeal to the character, with a pair of Avengers films familiarizing more audience to the God of Thunder, as well. Topping off both of those factors is the inclusion of the Hulk, a Marvel character who fans are eager to see return to the big screen, with elements of the popular Planet Hulk story being injected into the the cosmic adventure.
The only competition Ragnarok has in the opening weekend will come from the Mila Kunis film Bad Moms: Christmas which is projected to earn $30 million coming in as a sequel to Bad Moms, which opened to $23 million in July of 2016.
Thor will have to have his fun in a hurry, though. Two weeks after Ragnarok opens in the U.S., Warner Brothers and DC Films will unleash Justice League which will assemble the biggest names in DC Comics on the big screen for the first time.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017. Advanced tickets are available now wherever tickets are sold.
