'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Director Praises 'Thor: Ragnarok'

Among the many people praising Taika Waititi's work on Marvel Studios' latest film Thor: Ragnarok is Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.

Gunn took to social media after attending the Hollywood premiere of Thor: Ragnarok on Tuesday night to share his opinion of Marvel's next hit movie. "Thor: Ragnarok is stunningly fun and hilarious," Gunn wrote. "A modern-but-maybe-even-better Bukaroo Banzai/Flash Gordon! Splashy, colorful awesomeness!"

Splashy, colorful awesomeness can, of course, be attributed to the Jack Kirby inspirations poured into the film. Check out Gunn's tweet below.

In the sake of being thorough, both The Adventures of Bukaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension and Flash Gordon were beloved films when released, seeing a hero attempting to save the world in cosmic adventures of their own right.

"Buckaroo Banzai is caught with his trusted allies, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, in a battle to the death between evil red aliens and good black aliens from Planet 10," the synopsis for Bukaroo Banzai reads. "Lead by demonic dictator John Whorfin, who has taken over the body of Italian scientist Dr. Emilio Lizardo, the aliens try to get the Overthruster back from Buckaroo Banzai. But the good black aliens are willing to destroy earth rather than let these renegades return to their planet."

Clearly, the film fully embraced a ridiculous cosmic trip with a few silly heroes doing their best to save the world. Thor: Ragnarok might just do the same.

Plus, comparing Thor: Ragnarok to 80's films such as Bukaroo Banzai or Flash Gordon is the highest of compliments from someone like Gunn. The director constantly reminds fans of his appreciation for works from the era and injects references into his Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

It won't be long until Thor and the Guardians actually cross paths. Avengers: Infinity War is set to bring the two cosmic Marvel groups together in the summer of 2018 and crossed paths in Infinity War's first footage at D23.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3, 2017.
