If you were one of those people asking for the next Jurassic World movie to be more like Jurassic Park, it looks like you're getting your wish. In addition to the movie being teased as a darker film than its predecessor, a new character will provide a very important link to the original movie.
Back in February, James Cromwell (Babe, American Horror Story) officially joined the cast of Jurassic World 2. This was definitely a welcomed addition, but details regarding his role were kept under wraps.
However, in a recent interview with Larry King Now, Cromwell revealed that his character's name is Banjamin Lockwood - The former partner of Jurassic Park founder Dr. John Hammond.
“The character Richard Attenborough played, I’m his partner, Benjamin Lockwood. We developed the technology of being able to clone the genes. And so I’m trying to deal with the blowback from what we have done.”
If you recall, John Hammond was the old man who ran Jurassic Park. He was the one who wanted to open the attraction in the first place, and his grandchildren were the ones running around with Sam Neill throughout the entire film.
This is a connection that no one was expecting, but it provides yet another link to Jurassic Park. BD Wong's character, Wu, appeared in the first Jurassic World, and has taken a bit of a villainous turn. Just this past week, it was revealed that Jeff Goldblum - who starred in the first two Jurassic Park films - would be reprising his role as Ian Malcom in Jurassic World 2. (His picture was seen on the back of a book in the first Jurassic World.)
Unfortunately, Richard Attenborough won't be making a return to the franchise. The Oscar-winning director and actor sadly passed away in 2014, at the age of 90.
Jurassic World 2 is currently in the filming stages, and is expected to hit US theaters on June 22, 2018.
Jurassic World 2 is being directed by J.A. Bayona and stars Bryce Dallas Howard (Claire), Chris Pratt (Owen), Rafe Spall, BD Wong (Dr. Henry Wu), Toby Jones, and Justice Smith. The film is being produced by Belen Atienza, Patrick Crowley, and Frank Marshall, with Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Thomas Tull serving as executive producers.
In Jurassic World, located off the coast of Costa Rica, the Jurassic World luxury resort provides a habitat for an array of genetically engineered dinosaurs, including the vicious and intelligent Indominus rex. When the massive creature escapes, it sets off a chain reaction that causes the other dinos to run amok. Now, it's up to a former military man and animal expert (Chris Pratt) to use his special skills to save two young boys and the rest of the guests from an all-out, prehistoric assault.
