Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be in theaters this September, continuing director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar (Kick-Ass) and Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) spy action throwback comic book series. The first film was a whole lot of R-rated fun, but The Golden Circle's first trailer looked even more balls-to-the-wall, thanks to new additions like Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, Halle Berry, and Julianne Moore.
With fans expecting much bigger, better, things from Kingsman: The Golden Circle, it's become an even more daunting task for 20th Century Fox and Vaughn to create something even more epic for a trilogy-capping threequel. However, it seems that Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goodman are already working on plans for The Kingsman 3, with the director that "no one will predict where Eggsy winds up" at the end of Golden Circle.
Deadline reported on a Q&A held during a London preview of Kingsman: The Golden Circle, in which Vaughn revealed that he and Jane Goldman wrote the sequel with the threequel already in mind: “Weirdly while we were writing Kingsman 2, we were thinking of Kingsman 3 as well, which is odd. We’ve got a big idea for that. This is sort of the bridge and if we can pull this off, we’ll make another one.”
As for what that threequel will include? Vaughn didn't give up any details, but it sounds like The Golden Circle will be introducing story elements that will make it clear what Kingsman 3 would entail. For Vaughn, however, the first challenge is making a successful sequel film - something the X-Men: First Class director has never done before:
“I was very hesitant about making a sequel purely because so many sequels don’t really enhance the experience. They’re normally bigger but not necessarily better… Kick-Ass 2 was a big learning curve of how not to make a sequel. We didn’t set out to make a terrible film.”
Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens on September 22, 2017.
