Samuel L. Jackson Says Mace Windu Is Not Dead in the Star Wars Universe

Remember that time Mace Windu got his arm chopped off, and was tossed out a window high above the upper levels of the city planet of Coruscant? Not enough to stop that particular Jedi Master, says actor Samuel L. Jackson.

Jackson, who portrayed Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy of films, and his apparent death scene at the hands of Anakin Skywalker and Darth Sidious (which was Anakin's real initiation as Darth Vader), says he thinks Windu survived the fall.

"Jedi can fall from extremely high heights," Jackson said during a fan Q&A on twitter. He followed up with EW on SiriusXM, insisting that Mace Windu lived through the encounter.

"Of course he is! Jedi can fall from amazing distances. And there's a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?" Jackson posited. Lending credence to his argument is his proper use of Jedi in the singular and plural. Most impressive, Mr. Jackson. He thinks the character went into hiding after the Jedi Purge and Order 66; if he's correct, well, he could show up on Star Wars Rebels or even in another live action film.

Jackson has one important supporter of his theory, too: Star Wars creator George Lucas. When he told Lucas his theory, "George [was] like, 'I'm okay with that. You can be alive.'" While the Star Wars Story Group oversees all things canon and continuity now, the be-all end-all during that particular era was George Lucas, so there's hope for Windu fans (and Jackson chief amongst them).
