Alan Tudyk Talks About His Cut Live-Action Cameo In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

When it comes to blockbusters, you've got to have easter eggs. Fans all but demand creators drop secret hints and hilarious references throughout their films these days, and Star Wars is no exception. Both Disney and Lucasfilm have done their best to gift moviegoers with plenty of inside jokes, franchise mythology, and colorful cameos. But, when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story debuts this December, the film will premiere without a much-anticipated cameo - and now Alan Tudyk is talking about his cut live-action scene.

The actor recently participated in a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) alongside his co-stars of Con Man, a hilariously meta web series created by Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. It was there that the actor revealed he originally had a second role in Rogue One aside from the robot K-2SO that also tied-in with Con Man.

"Yeah, I guess it's a cameo — Wray Nerely, so the character that I play in Con Man," he said, referring to what other role he had played in Rogue One. "Sort of my alter ego in Con Man had a role in Rogue One."

He continued, saying, "I played a pilot, and the scene got cut I just found out. Like did Wray Nerely survive? I was really looking forward to seeing Wray Nerely in Star Wars, but truthfully Wray Nerely would never get that good of a job. So it was probably pretty good that he didn't."

Of course, many fans of Tudyk are sad to hear about his cameo getting cut. The inclusion would have been a fun nod to the actor's status as a geek icon given his past work on projects like Firefly and Young Justice. When news broke that Tudyk had joined Star Wars, fans were elated to hear about the actor's newest gig, so they can surely forgive Lucasfilm for cutting the cameo.

If you weren't familiar with the actor's involvement in Rogue One at all, then you should know Tudyk plays an Imperial robot named K-2SO. The character starts off as a bad guy who joins the Rebellion after being reprogrammed by Captain Cassain Andor to serve the good guys. Known for his blunt sarcasm, K-2SO gives the rebels all kind grief and will acts as a unfiltered companion for Jyn Erso.
