Many fans fell head over heels for the cutest additions to the Star Wars galaxy when new photos and footage revealed the puffin-inspired creatures called the Porgs. Well, that might change when people hear the noises they make.
A new toy of the Porg was found in the wild with a video posted by Instagram user Toyfiend. The interactive figure moves and makes noises at the press of a button, and those noises are slightly… unsettling, to say the least. Check out the video below.
Director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi Rian Johnson said he was inspired by these creatures when he visited Skellig Michael, the filming location for the sacred Jedi planet of Ahch-To. He went at a time when puffins migration took them to the island.
Being surrounded by all of the animals, he decided to incorporate them as new creatures in the latest Star Wars movie.
They are said to “get everywhere,” as evidenced by them being in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. It sounds like they’ll be intrusive, rapidly-multiplying creatures.
But Star Wars doesn’t have the best track record when attempting to make alien creatures endearing. The Ewoks from Return of the Jedi were pretty divisive among fans and Jar Jar Binks is one of the most loathed characters in the entire series.
Are the Porgs on their way to becoming the sequel trilogy’s new hated creature? Hopefully not, but these annoying sounds aren’t exactly encouraging…
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will begin infecting theaters with a Porg infestation on December 15.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.
