After waiting almost the entire runtime of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to catch only a short scene featuring Luke Skywalker, fans have been on the edge of their seat to find out more about the character.
Though Mark Hamill’s role is set to feature prominently in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, only a few images featuring Luke have been revealed in promotion of the film thus far.
The latest one, however, makes Luke look like a certifiable bad ass.
The look is almost like an updated version of his appearance from Return of the Jedi, crossed with his father’s garb in Revenge of the Sith. All black definitely suits Luke, especially if he’s going to be straddling that morally gray line between Light side and Dark side as many are speculating.
Luke Skywalker is likely to be featured in a lot more artwork and imagery for Star Wars: The Last Jedi as we get ready for its impending release date. Some photos were released by Vanity Fair, though those were staged by Annie Leibovitz. The latest set photos from Entertainment Weekly provided images of the character as he’ll appear in the film, with one of the covers featuring a darker take on the exiled Jedi.
But this photo makes Luke appear imposing, threatening, and downright scary.
Fans are speculating over Luke’s role in the film. All that’s really known at this point is that he’ll take Rey under his wing and train her in the ways of the Force. But his voice over in the trailer for The Last Jedi hints that he might be fulfilling these duties begrudgingly.
What has Luke learned during his time in exile? And how deep into the lore of the Force, the Jedi, and the Sith will this Star Wars movie go? Director Rian Johnson has already stated that the movie will leave a lot to be interpreted or explained, and Daisy Ridley has gone on the record about her character being disappointed when she finally meets Luke.
They do say, never meet your idols. Many fans will come face to face with theirs when Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
