This led to celebrations, pronouncement that the social justice warriors had won and even snarky remarks from Merriam-Webster. Reactions from past… is it Gallifrians, Gallifreyians or Gallifreans?… anyway past Time Lord’s were even mixed.
Colin Baker disagreed with Peter Davison on boys losing a role model – “They’ve had 50 years of having a role model. So, sorry Peter, you’re talking rubbish there โ absolute rubbish,” he said. “You don’t have to be of a gender of someone to be a role model. Can’t you be a role model as people?”
The happiest response by far though – goes to a former Who Companion – Karen Gillan. In a Entertainment Weekly interview (you can see below) Gillan raises her arms a cheers. “Yes, Jodie! Yes! C’mon, woooo! We’ve got a female! It’s so exciting…I’m so excited to see what she does with it, I really am.”
Gillan went on to describe how she found out, “I was gasping, I was staring at my phone like woah โ they’ve done it! They’ve really done it this time! And it just made me so happy. I think it’s really gonna rejuvenate the show as well. It’s gonna add this whole other layer. It’s gonna be cool.”
