"Danger Island"
Yes, Archer season 9 is titled "Danger Island" and as DoG reports, the new storyline will see the team from ISIS/The ISIS Cartel/The Figgis Detective Agency now working at an island resort and charter plane service.
As Executive producter Matt Thompson told EW, the season is set in 1939, just before WWII is about to break out, and "in the middle of this, seaplane pilot and semi-functioning alcoholic Sterling Archer is drinking, screwing, gambling, and generally bumbling around French Polynesia with a smart-ass parrot named Crackers. Welcome to Danger Island."
Here are the new character breakdowns for season 9:
- Archer, Pam, and Malory will be working at the resort. Archer will be a eye-patched sea plane pilot; Marlory the surly bartender; Pam will hilariously be portrayed as a Archer's bombshell hot sidekick and co-pilot; and Dr. Krieger will become Archer's smart-mouthed parrot, Crackers.
- Lana will be an exotic princess, and Cyril is an English real estate mogul, looking to buy up island land (and presumably bed said exotic princess).
- Cheryl will be a newlywed heiress honeymooning on the island, who gets left stranded there by her husband when he catches her in bed with Archer (classic!).
It's a fun premise, no doubt, but one that also puts the show itself on a "dangerous island" of fan opinion.

What Happened to Archer?
Archer season 8, "Dreamland," was a nice self-contained saga that transported Sterling Archer and co. to a 1940s detective Noir setting; however, with the show slated to end in season 10, there's little time left to resolve the drastic turn of the season 7 finale, which saw Archer mortally wounded (and partially drowned) by a psychotic movie star.
"Dreamland" was meant to serve as Archer's subconscious fantasy while in a coma, and according to co-creator Matt Thompson, "Danger Island" is continuing that story thread:
"Last season, we loved it, but things got pretty dark, pretty fast. And [Archer creator] Adam Reed had talked about just doing something that's fun and just having a blast with this season. So we basically stuck all these people on this tiny volcanic island, and we're just going to have as much as fun as we can, with quicksand, cannibals, super intelligent monkeys, and a volcano, and a talking fucking parrot."
So what about the actual reality that exists outside of these last two Inception-style seasons? According to Thompson, answers are coming:
"We're going back to all that. We're gonna' get to everything... hopefully. We won't leave it hanging."
Archer: Danger Island will premiere on FXX in early 2018.
