This morning, Good Morning America debuted a trailer this morning for Argo, Ben Affleck's upcoming thriller based on the true story of how Jack Kirby helped the CIA free a group of Americans trapped in Iran during the country's revolution in the 1970s. With stranded Americans hiding out at the home of the Canadian ambassador in Iran, the CIA set up a film production as a front, deceiving the Iranians into believing that they were planning on filming a science-fiction film called Argo in the country's deserts when in fact they were using realistic concept art and storyboards by comic book legend Jack Kirby to sell a lie that would allow them to smuggle the Americans out of the country. Affleck, who directs the film and will star in it alongside Bryan Cranston and John Goodman, is no stranger to telling one-degree-removed comic book stories, having starred as George Reeves in Hollywoodland, a true-crime story made in 2006 that delved into the mysterious death of the Adventures of Superman star. He also starred as Holden McNeil, a comic book writer/artist, in the Kevin Smith films Chasing Amy and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. It's probably better we don't mention Daredevil, though, right?
