Top Gun: Maverick Breaks Paramount+ Records, Becomes Most Watched Movie Premiere Ever

Top Gun: Maverick isn't done breaking records yet: Tom Cruise's Top Gun sequel has officially become the most-watched movie premiere ever on the Paramount+ streaming service, after debuting over the Christmas holiday. According to an official announcement by Paramount, from Thursday, December 22nd through Sunday, December 25th, Top Gun: Maverick "broke records domestically as the most watched movie premiere ever for the service, surpassing the previous record, held by SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2, by 60%."

It's also noted in the announcement that the success of Top Gun: Maverick on streaming has been a boon for Tom Cruise, in general. With audiences enjoying Cruise in Top Gun 2, they also found time to watch him in other films, with Paramount noting that Maverick increased viewer consumption in the original TOP GUN movie by nearly 400 % and the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE franchise titles on the service by over 140%.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (December 28, 2022) – On the heels of becoming the highest-grossing domestic and global film of 2022, the studio's #1 film of all time, as well as the #1 best-selling Digital release ever, Paramount today announced that TOP GUN: MAVERICK is the most watched movie globally in its premiere weekend streaming on Paramount +.
