Box Office: Hotel Transylvania 2's Monster Opening Is A New September Record

In 2012, Sony Pictures Animation's Hotel Transylvania had the best September opening ever with $42.5M, beating Sweet Home Alabama's previous-record of $35.6M which it set in 2002, and now it's sequel, Hotel Transylvania 2, has set a new record for the month with $48.2M. Wow! And some analyst think the film could finish with as much as $50M by the end of its debut weekend. Like the first film, audiences gave Hotel Transylvania 2 an 'A-' CinemaScore, too.

Hotel Transylvania 2 is also on pace to be Adam Sandler's best opening weekend. He voices Dracula and co-wrote the script. Sandler's best opening was $47.6M from 2005's The Longest Yard remake.

Meanwhile, The Intern starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway will finish in second with $18.6M. The Maze Runner sequel will take third with $14M and Everest can only climb up to fourth with $12.7M.
