In a new Total Film interview (issue on sale now), Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn expressed reservations about the prospect of key members of the Guardians cast appearing in other Marvel Studios movies.

"I'm not sure about Rocket and Groot doing cameos in other Marvel movies," Gunn said. "You don't want your kid to date someone who's going to treat them poorly and you don't want your kid to go and show up in a movie that doesn't really get who they are as a person. Even if your kid is dating a totally nice person, they have to get your child. It's the same with cameos, you have to make sure whoever is writing and directing those movies really understands Rocket and Groot and aren't just using them as a cheap ploy for people to show up at the theater."

Of course, recently Marvel has allowed cameo appearances in post-credits tags to be directed by the filmmaker responsible for the movie to come; Gunn directed the Guardians of the Galaxy teaser in Thor: The Dark World, for instance, and Joss Whedon reportedly directed the Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch sequence in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
