Batman cameo in Man of Steel

In a brief, red carpet interview with Access Hollywood just released to YouTube, David S. Goyer told an interviewer that he never expected to be writing a Superman movie, but that he's excited for audiences to see Man of Steel. Goyer, appearing to promote DaVinci's Demons on Starz, has written or co-written a number of superhero projects over the years, including the Blade movies and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. "I'm really proud of [Man of Steel]," said Goyer. "I never thought I'd be doing a Superman film but I think the only possible way to top myself or ourselves on Batman is to tackle Superman, who's kind of the granddaddy of all the superheroes. He's tricker, you know? It's kind of easier doing a dark character who doesn't have any superpowers but I'm really proud of what we've done and I can't wait for people to see it." Asked whether the Zack Snyder-directed version of Superman would still--as some have argued it appears in the trailer--be a bit dark and tortured, the writer was evasive but seemed to suggest that, ultimately, the tone of the film will be something that won't disappoint Superman fans. "I think the movie is going to be the right movie for the times," Goyer said. "I think that I'm happy that movie is going to be coming out this summer because I think it's the kind of movie that the world needs right now--he's an unabashed hero." Man of Steel will be in theaters on June 14.
