Marvel Always Had Alternate Plans With And Without Spider-Man

In October 2014, Marvel Studios announced plans for their next several years of films. Then Marvel finally struck a deal with Sony to get Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and altered the schedule to make room for a new Spider-Man solo film.

You might think that the deal sent Marvel into a tailspin as they tried to reorganize their plans to account for the wall crawler's presence. Not so much, studio president Kevin Feige tells /Film. Turns out, Marvel had been planning for such an eventuality all along:

As you might have imagined, that had been in the works for a long, long, long, long time. And we had, as we often do, mapped out various alternatives if things don't happen. So we had a plan how it would continue without him and we have a plan how now it will continue with him. I wouldn't say it was "drastic" but we were certainly happy when it all came together.

Marvel's first Spider-Man is expected to arrive in theaters on July 28, 2017
